Donald Bennett Obituary

Donald H. (Beaner) Bennett, 83, of Genesee passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, Thursday, September 4th, of Alzheimer's. He had been ill a little over a year. Don was born May 5, 1931, in Edgar, Montana, to H.E. (Bus) and Evelyn Gorman Bennett. Don was the oldest of the three Bennett boys - Don, Jim & Bobby. When he was seven years old, the family moved to Genesee. Don graduated from Genesee High School in 1949 where he had excelled in football, basketball, and baseball. He attended the U of I and pledged Delta Chi. He also attended PLU for one year and then joined the Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1955. He married Betty Jean Herman and together they raised five children. He worked for Standard Oil and Mutual Grocers in California. He moved his family back to Idaho in 1969 and he& Betty owned and operated the Corner Bar until 1980. He then worked for the McGregor Company until retiring in 1993. In his younger days he enjoyed fishing, hunting and boating. Gardening was his passion is his later years. He loved to watch his children and grandchildren participate in all sports and he was an avid Vandal Football Fan. He also loved the San Francisco 49ers, the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco Giants. He was an active member of the Bielenberg-Schooler American Legion Post 58, the Masons and the Genesee Booster Club. He is survived by his wife Betty, his brother and sister-in-law Bobby & Norene Bennett, and his five children - Mike (JoAnn) of Vacaville, CA, Doug (Kathy), Cathy Morscheck (Ray), Gary, Karyn Wright all of Genesee and his Vandal son - Tom Cable of Renton, WA. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren - Kim Bennett, Mike Bennett, Christine Swanson, Eric Bennett, Jason (Jennifer) Bennett, Megan Palmer (Steve), Kayla Bennett, Kyle Morscheck (Stephanie), Andrea Parrish (Marc), Sara Morscheck, Cody Bailey (Sam), Karli Bennett, Brady Bennett, Troy Gartner (Daylin), Kelsie Gartner, and Wyatt Wright. He also leaves behind 13 great grandchildren - Natalie, Derrick, Robert, Alecia, Antonio, Isabelle, Sophia, Abigail, Grace, Jacob, Cole, Hyde, Sydnee, Skyler, and Tannuhm. Two great great grandchildren (Bobby & Kaylee), Betty's siblings and their spouses, and several nieces and nephews will also miss him. He was preceded in death by both of his parents and his brother Jim. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Sept 9th, at 2:00, at the Genesee Community Church. A private family burial will take place before the memorial service. A luncheon will be held at the Genesee Fire hall immediately following the memorial service. Memorials in Don's name may be made to the Genesee Education Foundation, the Genesee Fire Department, or the Bielenberg-Schooler American Legion Post 58.
