Gerald “Gary” Peterson, longtime Moscow resident, passed away surrounded by family May 10th at Kootenai Health in Coeur d'Alene after a sudden battle with cancer. He was 75 years old.
Gary was born in Colfax, WA on June 9, 1942 to Lloyd and Veronica (Meemken) Peterson. The family moved around a bit before settling in Moscow where Gary would graduate high school in 1960. While attending Moscow High School, Gary met Janice Bosse and the two married on October 28, 1961 in the St Mary’s church in Moscow.
Gary worked for Safeway, Carl Boyd Farms, and starting in 1979 for Norm Druffel and Sons where he would retire in 2015. Gary enjoyed farming and although it consumed countless weekends and late nights in his lifetime, he wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Gary liked working in his shop and he could fix or build just about anything. Mechanic, carpenter, woodworker, fabricator, he could do it all. His other hobbies included camping, fishing, boating, four wheeling, golfing and whatever else he could find that was outdoors, especially when it involved his family. Gary and Jan also loved to spend winters in Yuma, AZ with their extended winter family. Gary was also a member of the Elks in Moscow.
Gary is survived by his wife Janice (Bosse) Peterson, brothers Marvin (Marge) Peterson and Dennis (Kathy) Peterson, sisters Janice (Dan) Bosse and Irene (Shannon) McAdams, sons Allen, Craig (Penny), Brian (Jonell) and Kyle (Shelle), 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held May 25, 10:00 at the St Mary’s church in Moscow. The service will be preceded by a rosary at 9:30, and immediately following the funeral will be a reception at the St Mary’s community center, followed by a graveside service at the Moscow cemetery.
