Lucille Bernice Schroeder, 97, of Moscow, Idaho, and formerly of Clarkston, Washington, died Friday, April 6, 2018 at Good Samaritan Moscow Village. Lucille was born October 30, 1920 in St. Anthony, Idaho, to Peter and Mary Schaat. Peter immigrated from Dietel, Russia, Soviet Union, to Russell, Kansas, where he met Mary. They both later relocated to Idaho. Lucille graduated from Madison High School, Rexburg, Idaho, in 1939. She attended Colorado Woman's College 1940-1941. She pursued her Registered Nurse degree from St. Luke's Hospital and Training School in Boise Idaho, between 1941-1944. Lucille served in Oakland, California, as a staff nurse in the U.S Naval Hospital Oak Knoll during WW II with the rank of an Ensign from April 1945 - November, 1945. On July 14, 1945 Lucille married Walter A. Schroeder at the United Brethren Church in Oakland, California. Walter and Lucille owned Walt's Mercantile in Parker, Idaho, and operated the local post office in the same building. Walt and Lucille moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1955 when Walt took a job as carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. Lucille took a job as a nurse at the original Las Vegas Hospital, later retiring in 1982 after working for twenty years for an ophthalmologist. Walter and Lucile moved to Clarkston, Washington, in 1984. During early retirement, Lucille's servant's heart led her to volunteer for people in need of medical assistance. She also enjoyed reading, crocheting afghans for family and friends, growing flowers and vegetables in her garden, and enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and six sisters. She is survived by her daughter Nancy (John) Gerrard of Burley, Idaho; her son Douglas (Maurene) Schroeder of Moscow, Idaho, nine grandchildren, and twenty-three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow, Idaho. The family asks that memorials in Lucille's name be made to Fair View Village Estates, Good Samaritan Village Society, Moscow, Idaho. Online condolences can be sent to www.shortsfuneralchapel.com
