Mabel Thompson Obituary

Mabel G. Thompson of Moscow died Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Good Samaritan Moscow Village. She was 97. Mabel was born March 8, 1917 at Deary to Merton L. and Emily N. (Osborn) Pierce. She grew up and attended school at Deary. She worked at Gritman Hospital prior to her marriage to Howard J. (J.T.) Thompson on July 13, 1936 at Pullman. They made their home in Pullman, then lived in Arizona for a time, returning to Deary. In 1951 the family moved to Moscow. She started working at Washington State University as a cook, and later in housekeeping until her retirement in 1980. She enjoyed fishing, picking huckleberries, gardening and made stuffed animals and baby blankets for her 17 grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren. She was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and especially enjoyed spending time with her family and eating her dessert (sometimes before dinner). Mr. Thompson died in 1972. Surviving are her children, Donald M. "Mert" (Kathy) Thompson, Sherla Francis, Mike (Ann) Thompson, all of Moscow and Carla (Randy) Bingman of Sherwood, OR. She also leaves 17 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and numerous great great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Frances Sundsrom of Moscow, Eleanor Logan of Lewiston and Edith Dion of Moscow. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Jerry in 2000, a son-in-law, Phil Francis in 2007, a brother, Alvin Pierce, sisters, Ruby Lundquist and Elson Hanson as well an infant brother, Dexter. A private burial will be at the Moscow Cemetery. A memorial service will be Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Emmanuel Lutheran Church with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall. The family asks that friends bring and share a memory of Mabel. The family suggests memorials be made to Good Samaritan Village.
