Margaret Futch

Margaret Futch, 77, of Moscow passed away Saturday, August 2, 2014. Margaret was born September 30, 1936, in Boiul Mare, Romania, to Zachacy and Lucretia Tescula Cioc. At the age of 5 she and her mother came to live in America, first living in Detroit then moving to Nokomis, Florida. She graduated from Venice-Nokomis High School in 1954. On October 27, 1954 she married her best friend, Arthur E. Futch, Sr. She and Art lived in Venice until 1966 when they moved their family to Moscow. The move being made after a visit with Art's family that had moved earlier to Idaho, they fell in love with the area and decided that they wanted to raise their family here. Margaret decided that she wanted to become a nurse, so with usual determination she did. She was in the first classes for nursing through Gritman Hospital. She graduated and took the boards to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She worked at Gritman Hospital until she got a position at the Moscow Clinic with Dr. Burt Britzmann. She worked for him for 25 years retiring in 1994. Margaret was very involved with pioneering the local LPN Association serving as president for three years and at one point secretary. In 1977, Margaret was diagnosed with breast cancer and with her dogged determination and perseverance she beat it and was cancer free till the time of her death. Throughout her years she was a basket ballplayer in high school, a softball player and coach, bowler, knitter, crocheted, macramé , needle pointing, sewing and reading excessively (as Art would say). She was a great football fan, watching every game she could. She enjoyed camping, hunting and especially fishing. She fished at Elk River, Moose Lake, Dworshak Dam, Brownlee Reservoir (catching crappie, and throwing "those things"- small mouth bass- back) deep sea fishing was not her best as she got sea sick in the worst way. Margaret and Art were able to travel around the country and overseas when some of their children were in the military. They traveled to Greece, Germany, England and Scotland. They enjoyed these trips and explored all over. Margaret was always there for anyone that needed an ear to talk to and was always, always there for her children, being their number one fan in all that they decided to do. Margaret is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Arthur; five children, Arthur (Lee) Futch, Jr., LuAnn Beitzel (Jenn), Hazel (Jon) Thompson, Steve (Olga) Futch, and Mandy Futch; her brother, Tom Savici; seven grandchildren, one step-granddaughter; seven great-grandchildren and one on the way and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her granddaughter, Karen. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, Aug. 8, 2014 at 11:00 am at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow and a reception will follow at the University Inn - Best Western Silver Room following.
