Anne M. Becker

Anne M. Becker, 96, a long-time Moscow resident, went to be with our Lord, Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Aspen Care Center in Moscow. Anne was born December 22, 1919 to Alluis and Rosa (Jonas) Erker at Brisbane, North Dakota. In 1924, the family moved to a farm near Lemmon, South Dakota. There she attended a one-room country school and then graduated from Lemmon High School in 1938. Her work as a 'nanny' brought her West to Toppenish in 1940 and to Moscow in 1941 to work for the Floyd Trail family, where she also attended the University of Idaho for a year. In her early years in Moscow, she worked for the Anderson Store and Spot Shop. She served as bookkeeper for Becker & Son, her husband's masonry company, for many years. In 1958 she went to work as a bookkeeper for Powell Plumbing, retiring in 1997 at the age of 77. She met and married George Becker on July 10, 1942. They were blessed with three daughters, whom she said had all been a joy (nearly always). She and George were instrumental in founding the local archery club, where she served as its secretary-treasurer for over 20 years. She participated in many activities including archery, bowling, fishing, gardening, and golf, a game she played until she was 94. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. Her favorite pastime, however, was cooking and baking, never hesitant to try a new recipe. All knew her as an excellent cook. She said she was especially enriched by her St. Mary's parish family. She was a devout Catholic her entire life, for many years serving as sacristan, communion minister, and lector. She was preceded in death by her husband George in 1989 and by her four sisters, Dena Mitchell, Amy Burkhartsmeier, Kathryn Plocek and Agnes Blom. She is survived by her daughters Rosanne Becker of University Place, WA, Michele (Bruce) Nygaard of Moscow and Jennifer (Dan) Richards of Port Orchard, WA. Also surviving are her grandchildren Stephanie (Jesse) Scholle of Airway Heights, WA, Thomas Richards of Tacoma, WA, Peter Richards of Seoul, Korea, and Aaron Richards of Port Orchard, WA, and two great-granddaughters, Alaina and Kaitlyn Scholle. A.Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. A luncheon and time of fellowship will follow at St. Mary's Family Center following. A private graveside service will be at the Moscow Cemetery prior to the service.
