Dan Hordemann

Daniel Willis Hordemann of Moscow passed away at the Hospice of North Idaho Schneidmiller House in Hayden, ID on Friday, May 19, 2017. Dan was born May 8, 1938 at Moscow to Willis and Bernadine Haupt Hordemann. He attended Moscow schools, graduating in 1957. He joined the Army and was part of the 101st Airborne for 2 years, attaining the rank of Buck Sargent on his discharge. He returned to Moscow and attended the University of Idaho where he played football. Dan soon realized school was not for him. He married Rebecca Sheets in June of 1961 and later divorced. Dan was and Eagle Scout and a member of the Knights of Columbus with St. Mary's Church. He was also a member of the Eagles Lodge, Moose Lodge and a 50 years member of the Moscow Elks. He also volunteered with the Moscow Volunteer Fire and EMS for over 11 years and served in the National Guard for many years. Dan's passion was playing golf, he won the annual Sole Survivor Golf Championship at the Moscow Elks four times. Other than golf, his other passion was his four daughters and his grandkids that he loved more than anything. Dan works many jobs including farming and roofing and for Carnation delivering milk for over 10 years. He spent 30 years working for North Latah Highway District until his retirement. Dan is survived by his sister, Marcia Coluccio of Seattle, two brothers, Greg (Ginny) Hordemann of Boise and Brad Hordemann of Moscow. His four daughters, Bonnie (Ron) Candler of Potlatch, Shelly Hordemann of Colfax, Leslie (Dave) McGraw of Troy and Laurie Hordemann of Princeton and his partner, Pat Stubbs of Moscow. Dan also leaves 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Dan will always be remembered as one of the kindness, most caring people you could know and will be truly missed by his family and friends. There was never a time where he didn't have a smile on his face. He cherished his children and his friends and he will never be forgotten. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Moscow. A luncheon and time of fellowship follow at the Moscow Eagle's Lodge on Main Street. The family suggests memorials be made to the VFW or to the Moscow Volunteer Fire Department an EMS.
