Alvin Paca Bohman

Alvin (Paca) Bohman, 90, a life-long Troy resident, died of natural causes, Saturday, March 28, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. Alvin was born September 11, 1924 in Troy, Idaho to Johan Gustaf (Olsson) Bohman and Hilma Alida Westberg Bohman. He grew up on the family farm on Little Bear Ridge. He attended grade school at Little Bear Ridge Schoolhouse just east of Camps Canyon Road and graduated from Troy High School in 1942. His passion for agriculture was exhibited by being one of the first chapter members of the Troy Future Farmers of America which was started in 1938. After graduating from high school Alvin returned to the family farm and helped in its operation. He continued to manage the farm for his family until the passing of his mother and father at which time he purchased the farm from the estate. Alvin was a patron of the Latah County Grain Growers, an organization his father was one of the founding members of and served on its board of directors during the 1960's. The family farming tradition continues today with Al and Charlotte's sons and grandsons. On October 21, 1961 he married Charlotte Dyer in Seattle. Together they worked tirelessly to keep the farm viable. From raising hogs, working on televisions in the evenings to cooking steaks at the Lumberjack, Al and Charlotte worked side by side to support their family. Al was never satisfied with the status quo and his quest for a better "mouse trap" compelled him to design many devices such as a homemade thistle cutter to one of the first 50 foot sprayers in the area. Al & Charlotte helped support the family, with the assistance of her father, Willard "Moon" Dyer as Moon and The Moon Beams, by playing dance music on the weekends in front of their loyal followers. They continued running the family farm until Charlotte passed in 2005 and Al retired in 2007. Al's retirement allowed him to focus his efforts in becoming a self-proclaimed "organic" gardener. He always raised a large garden, and loved sharing his produce with neighbors, family and friends. Paca always said, "You can't be a good farmer unless you raise a good garden!" The other hobby he was passionate about was alternative remedies and herbal treatments. The family always joked that if any one of us had an ailment, we had to make an appointment with Dr. Bohman. His family was the most important thing in his life and he counted the days until the next family gathering. Charlotte preceded him in death on February 28, 2005. Surviving are his five children, Roger and wife Julie Osborn of Lewiston, Sherry Osborn of Seattle, Gary and wife Connie Osborn, Roxanne Bohman and John and wife Alison Bohman all of Troy. He also leaves multiple grandchildren: Tony, Codi, Nick and wife Lizzy, Travis and fiancé Dez, Kyle and wife Sam Osborn and Halee and Brett Bohman. In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Bohman and sisters, Carlot McGahan, Irene Snow and Doris Anderson. A funeral service will be held Friday, April 3, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow. Burial will follow at Burnt Ridge Cemetery in Troy. A celebration of life will follow at Ridgeview Farm's shop, 1640 Little Bear Ridge Rd. The family suggests memorials be made to Troy Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 567, Troy, Idaho 83871.
