Betty J Bennett, 86, of Genesee, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, Friday, November 11, 2016. Betty was born February 19, 1930, in Lewiston, Idaho, (10 minutes after her twin sister, Bonnie) to Charles and Nina Goodwin Herman. Big brother, George, was already at home and younger sisters, Faye & Lillie Mae, completed their family a few years later. Betty worked at Twin City Foods during the summers and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1948. Betty married Vernon Bonson and was blessed with sons Michael and Douglas. Their marriage ended in divorce. Betty married Don Bennett and was blessed with daughters and son, Cathy, Gary and Karyn. The family lived in the San Francisco bay area until 1969, when they moved to Genesee. Don & Betty owned and operated the Corner Bar until 1980, when Randy & Dee Hall purchased the business from them. Betty continued to work for Dee & Randy during lunch times and continued to bake pies for them. Betty enjoyed baking and playing games with her grandchildren & great grandchildren. She loved to watch her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren participate in any & all types of activities. She was an avid Idaho Vandal football fan. She also loved the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco Giants, Gonzaga Bulldogs and Genesee Bulldogs. She was a member of the Genesee Senior Citizens, Bridge Club, American Legion Auxiliary and Genesee Community Church. But her true passion was bridge! She is survived by her twin sister, Bonnie Long, brother & sister-in-law, George & Bee Herman, brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Bob & Norene Bennett, brother-in-law Dick Derganc, and brother-in-law Sim Fleishman; her five children and their spouses; Mike & JoAnn Bennett of Vacaville, CA, Doug & Kathy Bennett, Cathy & Ray Morscheck, Gary Bennett, and Karyn Wright, all of Genesee, and her Vandal son, Tom Cable of Renton, WA. She is also survived by her 16 grandchildren and their spouses; Kim Bennett, Michael J Bennett, Christine Swanson, Eric Bennett, Jason (Jennifer) Bennett, Megan (Steve) Palmer, Kayla Bennett, Kyle (Stephanie) Morscheck, Andrea (Marc) Parrish, Sara Morscheck, Cody (Sam) Bailey, Karli Bennett, Brady Bennett, Troy (Daylin) Gartner, Kelsie (David Kracke) Gartner, and Wyatt Wright. She is also survived by 17 great grandchildren; Natalie, Derrick, Robert, Alecia, Antonio, Isabelle, Sophia, Abigail, Grace, Jacob, Cole, Hyde, Sydnee, Skyler, Madison, Tannuhm, & Boston. Another great grandchild will arrive in April. Two great great grandchildren, Bobby & Kaylee, also survive. Betty also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, both parents and sisters, Faye Derganc & Lillie Mae Fleishman. Betty's family would like to thank the staff at Gritman Hospital and Aspen Park (especially Nurse Kathy) for the excellent care she received during her stay. We would also like to thank all of her wonderful friends who visited her and who chauffeured her so many different places the past two years. Your kindness will be forever remembered! A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, November 18th, at the Genesee Community Church. A private family burial will take place before the memorial service. A luncheon will be held at the Genesee Fire Hall immediately following the memorial service. Memorial donations in Betty's name may be made to the Genesee Education Foundation or the Genesee Fire Department.
