Betty Marie Wernecke

November 1, 1931 — February 1, 2024

Betty Wernecke (Grandma Boop, Betty Boop) was born November 1, 1931 to John and Frances Trimble.  She passed away February 1 at the age of 92.

Betty was the eldest of four children.  Her mother raised the children with help from family and friends while living in Genesee and Moscow.  She and Ray Wernecke were married for 64 years and made their home in Moscow where they raised their four children.

Betty had a 25-year career as a public employee of Idaho, seven years at the University of Idaho in food service at Gault and Upham Halls, and 18 years at the Moscow Junior High School as “the laundry lady” cleaning P E and sports uniforms, a position she held until her retirement in 1991.  The 1992 Cub Tracks was dedicated to Betty.  A retirement plaque listed her as an employee, friend, and mom to Moscow’s kids.  Betty had a unique ability to remember details of her friends and their families including birthdays for which she always sent a card. Betty was known for always having her hair perfectly set, her nails done, and coordinating her clip-on earrings to every outfit.

She is survived by Cheryl (Chuck) Baysinger, Linda Jacobs, and Brian (Jodi) Wernecke, 10 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren (another on the way); sisters-in-law Virginia Walker, Beverly Wernecke, and Joyce Pedersen; and several special nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Ray, she was predeceased by brothers Robert and Jack Trimble, sister Doris Uhlman, son Bill, and nephew David Trimble.

A special thank you to the employees at Aspen Park of Cascadia, Kristen and Nicole from Family Resource Home Care, and her favorite doctor, Musa Modad.  Contributions in her memory can be made to the Moscow Volunteer Fire Department or Bear Boosters.
