Betty Williamson, age 88, a beloved wife and mother, departed this world peacefully on July 12, 2024, surrounded by loved ones at home, after living a rich life of service and kindness. She was born on September 10th, 1935, to Joseph and Sara Hightower, at Goosecreek, Texas. She was known for her sharp wit and sense of humor. Betty was a beacon of light in the Bovill community, touching many lives for over fifty years. Betty was a faithful member of the Catholic community, living in a convent in her youth, and attending Easter Mass at the Vatican with Pope Francis. In her early years, she was a switchboard operator for the Southern Bell Telephone Company and the railroad, then a United States Marine, being one of the first women in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. She is survived by her husband Asa, sons Robin, Michael and Daniel, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Rebecca.
There will be a Catholic graveside service at the Bovill Cemetery on July 19th, 2024, at 9am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
