Brian Paul Magelky was born May 26,1956, in Dickinson, ND, to Henry and Dorothy Magelky. He was the fourth of 5 children and had many happy memories running with the Park Avenue neighbors. He was first introduced to woodworking in his youth, which became a lifelong passion. He built cabinets in many of his homes, furniture, and wood carvings.
He first came to Moscow in 1974 to major in Fisheries, a major that reflected his love of the outdoors. He met his future wife Julie through her roommate while attending the University of Idaho.
They were married in Moscow in 1977 and celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary in early September. Brian had a long career in banking that took him and his family to various cities in Idaho and Western Washington. In 1981, their daughter Jennifer was born. Brian and Jennifer Lynn shared a love of baseball, rock and roll, and swapping good recipes. In 1995, Aaron Matthias joined the family. Aaron and Brian grew close over the years with many outdoor activities, including fishing, hunting, and camping. They also shared a love of running trains. Brian’s sense of humor was well known to those who loved him. He was always quick with wit and sarcasm. He also had the gift of telling stories.
In retirement, Brian was an active volunteer supporting the Latah County Historical Society Foundation, Washington, Idaho & Montana Railway History Preservation Group, and Latah Railway Model Railroad Club. He and Julie enjoyed traveling to their favorite camping spots and attending woodworking conferences. Brian also enjoyed barbequing for his family with his smoker, baking sourdough bread, and puzzles.
Brian is survived by his wife, Julie Magelky; daughter, Jennifer Magelky-Seiler (husband, Larkin Seiler) son, Aaron Magelky; brother, Bruce Magelky (wife Linda); brother, David Magelky (wife Becky), sister Stephanie Magelky, sister Nancy Kelly (husband, Tim), brother-in-law Tim Womack (wife Camy), sister-in-law Pam Bell (husband Rod), sister-in-law Shelly Womack (partner David Swing) and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial will be held on March 8, 2025 at the Potlatch Depot 185 6th Street, Potlatch, Idaho starting at 1 PM.
