Bruce L Nygaard

November 23, 1945 — October 27, 2025

Bruce Leslie Nygaard passed away at Paradise Creek Health and Rehabilitation of Cascadia in Moscow, on Monday, October 27th at the age of 79.

Bruce was born on November 23, 1945 (on his father’s birthday) in Moscow, Idaho to Edward and Rachel Nygaard. The family moved from Potlatch, ID to Moscow where he attended grade school. In 1959 his family spent a year in Pullman, WA where he attended 8 th grade, moving back to Moscow the following year. He graduated from Moscow High School in 1964 and attended the University of Idaho for a semester before entering the workforce.

During high school he worked at the University of Idaho and also for his dad at the local lumber yard. In 1967 he began his working career with the Washington Water Power Company (now Avista Utilities). Over the years he work as a meter reader, head groundman, gas crewman and finally as the Palouse Division stores manager – a position from which he retired in 2003 after 36 years of service.

On November 30, 1968 he married Michele Becker in Moscow. Together they enjoyed camping and fishing, archery, bowling (he was a coach-instructor for the junior bowling leagues), and especially golf, recording two holes-in-one at the Moscow Elk’s Golf Course, where he had been a member for over 50 years. In retirement he enjoyed his early morning coffee clutch, breakfast at McDonalds, and monthly luncheon get-togethers with a group of his high school classmates.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Michele. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Rosanne Becker and Jennifer (Dan) Richards, along with numerous nieces and nephews and their extended families. He was preceded in death by his sister, Diane Tubb of Troy.

We wish to express our sincere appreciation to the caregivers at Paradise Creek Health and Rehabilitation of Cascadia for the compassionate care given to Bruce over the past few weeks.

At his request, there will be no services. Donations in his memory can be given to the Moscow Volunteer Fire Department, or a charity of one’s choice.
