Cornelia A. Carree

June 25, 1932 — August 18, 2017

Cornelia A. "Corrie" Carree of Moscow died Friday morning, August 18, 2017 at her daughter's home. She was 85. Corrie was born in the Netherlands on June 25, 1932 and lived there through World War II in occupied Netherlands. She married Gerradus Carree on February 24, 1953 and immediately immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada where they lived for five years before moving to South Chicago Heights, Illinois. Cornelia was a homemaker and also worked for the Northgate Distributing Company for many years. Her biggest joy was Dixieland jazz and nothing made her happier than going to jazz concerts with her friends. Both Cornelia and Jerry were members of the Chicagoland area Illiana Jazz Club for over 40 years, with Cornelia serving on the board as the membership chair for much of that time. In her later years, Corrie moved to Moscow to be closer to her daughter Yvonne and son-in-law Robert Barkley and much loved granddaughter, Tela. She made new friends here, attending the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival and going to her first tail-gate parties at the Kibbee Dome. Corrie loved a good joke, a good soccer game and a nice cocktail at the end of each day. She will be missed by many here, in the Chicago area and in Europe. She is survived by her daughter, Yvonne, son-in-law Robert and granddaughter Tela, sisters, Matilda M. Binken, Adriana C. Kromwyk, Jacoba J. Dolislager, sisters-in-law, Nel Binken and Riet Binken, Brother-in-law Antony Carree as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Anthony, her husband Gerradus, sister, Johnanna Hagen and brothers, Frans and Dirk Binken and a nephew Robert Hagen. At her request, there will be no formal service and a family celebration will be held later. They suggest memorials be made to the Humane Society of the Palouse, P.O. Box 8847, Moscow, ID 83843. Arrangements have been entrusted to Short's Funeral Chapel, Moscow, and online condolences may be sent to www.shortsfuneralchapel.net.
