Darrell Lee Hunt, 69, of Troy peacefully passed to his rest Sunday November 2, 2025 after a few difficult months which ended his 7 year cancer journey.
Born August 19, 1956, in Moscow to Orley and Jeannetta Schwartz Hunt he was the 4th of their seven children. He spent his early years in Farmington, WA. At age 10 they moved to Troy when his father had the opportunity to purchase a larger farm. He completed elementary school in Moscow before attending the boarding high school Upper Columbia Academy in Spangle, WA. This is where he met his wife, Dixie Dorner. They were married in Wenatchee, WA on March 28, 1976. After 2 seasons on a small farm in Quincy, WA they moved to Wenatchee where he entered the construction trade. Both of their children were born here. In 1983 the family moved to Troy when he rejoined his father and brother in farming in the Palouse region eventually forming Pleasant Hill Farms partnership. In 1986 a friend asked him to build a duplex in Moscow. Soon after he was the volunteer construction manager for a large renovation of the Adventist grade school in Moscow. And just like that Darrell Hunt Construction was off and running. Darrell and Dixie greatly enjoyed helping people make home ownership a dream realized no matter the budget. He was also committed to offering volunteer construction management services in our area including the ACS food bank in Troy, the ACS warehouse in Deary and the large addition/remodel of the Troy Adventist Church. They also led 2 mission trips to Bagio, Philippines to aide the construction of a large high school facility. During all those years the farm was growing with the addition of son Devin to the partnership.
As a young man Darrell dabbled in golf, volleyball and softball before settling on basketball as his game. He led local city league teams for years and played what he called “old man” pickup games into his 50’s.
Darrell was a lifelong member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He served as a junior/youth leader, head deacon, school board chair and general encourager of anyone he met. He felt a person’s faith should be expressed by treating others in a Christ like manner. Darrell is survived by his wife of 49 years Dixie at the family home. Daughter Denae’ (Jason) Kramer. Son Devin (Laura Cole) and granddaughter Aria. Siblings Yvonne (Tom) Nelson, Marvin (Arlene) Hunt, Evelyn (Mark) Laws, Wanda Douglas, Velda (Burge) Grubbs, Brenda Hunt. Mother-in-law June Dorner as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be deeply missed.
A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday November 29 at the Troy Adventist Church 1158 Big Meadow Road.
Memorial donations may be made in his honor to the Troy Adventist Church for the outdoor fellowship area to be constructed in the summer of 2026
