Doris L. Lawton

September 15, 1917 — February 5, 2015

Doris L. Lawton was born in Oakesdale, Washington on September 15, 1917 to Lafayette and Lula Davis Yarnell. She married Jack Lawton on April 11, 1936. The angles escorted her home on February 5, 2015. She was 97. Doris and Jack made their home in Moscow, Idaho, where he operated a gas station on the Northwest corner of Sixth and Washington Streets until World War II began. They ran a taxi service during the War. When cars became available again, Mr. Lawton opened a car dealership where they both worked until Mr. Lawton's death in 1956. Later Doris was co-owner of Jaclyn's, a children's clothing store in Moscow. She enjoyed Spokane and lived there most of the following years. She was fond of golf, bowling and bridge and she was very good at all three. It is still a family wonder how she taught each of her daughters to swim without ever conquering that sport herself. She liked crafts and travel and was very generous with her time, resources and possessions. She is survived by three daughters; Jacqui Courtney of Elk, WA, LeAnn and Tim Phillips of Clarkston, WA and Pat and Rich Koster of Moscow, ID; her grandchildren Eric Courtney of Seattle, WA, Adam Courtney of Spokane, WA, Robyn Phillips of Salt Lake City, UT, John Phillips of San Diego, CA, Lauri Koster of Moscow, ID, Lisa Canale of Spokane, WA, and two great granddaughters, Taylor Edwards of Spokane and Kailey Phillips of San Diego, CA and one great grandson, Jace Phillips of San Diego. We are deeply indebted to our sister, Jacqui, for her loving care of our mother and to Sharayah Martin who served faithfully as her assistant for many years. A family graveside service will be held at the Moscow Cemetery. Her family suggests memorials be made to the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery, 1004 East 8th Ave., Spokane, WA 99202 or to the Shriners Hospital for Children, P.O. Box 2472, Spokane, WA 99210. Arrangements have been entrusted to Short's Funeral Chapel, Moscow, and online condolences may left at www.shortsfuneralchapel.net.
