Douglas James Bailey, 57

Douglas James Bailey, known as Doug to everyone but his Grandma, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, December 5, 2016, in Moscow, Idaho after battling ALS. He was born December 11, 1958, in Pullman, Washington to Ted and Norma Bailey. Doug graduated from Moscow High School and worked in the family business, B & G Distributors. When the business was sold in 1992, Doug continued his career as a truck driver. He most recently worked for Baker Truck Service in Grangeville. Doug's true passion was farming and he spent many years during his youth working at the family farm in Colton side by side with his Grandpa Druffel and cousin, Dale. Doug's hobbies included anything with a motor and being outside. From his youth, he always enjoyed being at the family lake cabin, camping, riding snowmobiles in the winter, drag racing jeeps at the Fossil Bowl near Clarkia, and riding motorcycles, which he did until his disease wouldn't allow it. He loved to frequent the local hangouts in Moscow and later on in Genesee to shoot the breeze with friends. To know Doug was to love him, and to say he was blessed with great friends would be an understatement. He hardly ever met a stranger, and if he did they didn't stay that way for long. His son, Cody Bailey and daughter-in-law, Samantha, survive Doug. His son and his dogs were the focus of his life, and he loved spending quality time with them. Doug tried hard to fight the battle until April when his first grandchild is expected, but it wasn't meant to be. His parents and a sister, Chris Lyon and her husband Dan, brother, Greg and his wife Cathryn, along with two nieces and two nephews, also survive Doug. Doug's family is so appreciative of all the friends and family who supported him in his battle with this terrible disease. Visits from friends meant the world to him. And even after it was hard for him to speak his eyebrows could tell you exactly what he was thinking. The community of Genesee and Moscow were a shining light in Doug's life this past year. The staff at Good Samaritan Village was so kind and accommodating of Doug's needs, and Gritman Medical Center and their staff went above and beyond. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking such good care of our father, son, and brother. At Doug's request, there will be a celebration of his life at 11:00 at the Nazarene Church in Moscow (1400 East 7th St.) on Friday, December 9. Refreshments and a time of fellowship and remembering will follow in the church Fellowship Hall.
