Edith May Griffin of Elk River died Monday, January 1, 2018 at Gritman Medical Center. She was 81. Edith was born November 22, 1936 at Helmer, Idaho to Harvey and Vivian Knowles Clugey. She started school in Helmer, and then Deary. She and Mitchell S. Griffin were married July 3, 1953 in Lewiston. They made their home in Helmer, later Bovill and Emida before settling in Elk River in 1971. Edith was a longtime member of the Syringa Club in Elk River and served as secretary for several years. She volunteered at the Deary Food Bank and was an EMT at Elk River for a time. Edith was an accomplished seamstress, making clothing for her children, enjoyed knitting, quilting, crocheting and upholstered furniture. She was an ardent gardener, canning much of the produce, and was known for her huckleberry picking abilities. Surviving are her children, Clarence and Gale Griffin of Lewiston, Teresa "Terry" and Bill Whybark of Moscow, Denise and Heath Schroedl of Elk River and Roger and Mary Griffin of Lewiston. She also leaves 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and a brother, Jack Clugey of Lewiston. She was preceded in death by a son, Mitchell S. "Mike" Griffin, Jr. in 2001, her husband, Mitchell in 2004, a granddaughter, Chanda Morris in 1991, a grandson, Aaron Pointon in 2017, two brothers, Ralph and Glen Clugey and a sister, Pearl Williams. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow with Pastor Kevin McGill officiating. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery in Deary with a luncheon and time of fellowship at the Deary Community Center afterward. The family suggests memorials be made to the Chanda Morris Scholarship Fund at Gritman Medical Center, the Deary Food Bank or to the Syringa Club in Elk River.
