Evelyn Martson

Evelyn E. Martson, of Moscow, died Sunday May 4, 2025, at Hill House Memory Care in Moscow. She was 87.

Evelyn was born May 20, 1937, in Genesee to Ray and Cleo Edwards. She attended Genesee schools graduating from Genesee High School in 1955. During high school Evelyn worked at the bowling alley setting pins and the movie theater in Genesee. She also worked for a local farmer all summer and saved her money to buy a Jansen sweater. After graduation she moved to Lewiston to live at the YWCA. She then moved to Moscow to work at Varsity Cafe where she met Bob. She married Robert “Bob” Martson Oct. 7, 1956. Evelyn went to work at GTE as an operator in Pullman, eventually becoming the head operator. After 10 years at GTE Evelyn went to work for Washington State University Athletics retiring in 1992.

After retirement Evelyn and Bob enjoyed spending time with their granddaughter Molly, they always had an open-door policy for family and never turned anyone away. They took trips to Alaska, and went to several WSU bowl games when the opportunity presented itself. She enjoyed gardening and loved her flowers.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter Debbie Howerton, of Moscow, granddaughter Molly Howerton, of Boise. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years in November of 2024, her parents and siblings.

A viewing will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, at Short’s Funeral Chapel, 1225 E. Sixth St., Moscow. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 8, at the Moscow Cemetery followed by a reception at the University Inn, 1516 Pullman Road, Moscow.
