Geoffrey William Harold Beckett, our local hero and locksmith, unlocked the pearly gates and went to heaven on Monday, May 27th. He passed peacefully at home, holding his wife’s hand. Loved by many, missed by all, disguised as a biker, Santa, and friend. When Geoff passed away and arrived at the pearly gates of Heaven, Saint Peter said, “We’ve been expecting you! We’ve been locked out for centuries!”
Geoff loved Moscow. He moved here in 1972 and worked at Varsity Bar, serving burgers and beers, a perk he more than enjoyed himself, while pursuing his masters in economics at the University of Idaho. Wanting a job where he could be his own boss, he began taking locksmith courses. Eventually, he became a Master Locksmith and Safe Technician and purchased the Post Office Square Shopping Center, which was established in 1949 as the oldest shopping center in Moscow. Geoff had a lot of pride in his accomplishments, but even more so in his family.
Geoff is survived by his wife, Deborah, and seven adult children, Elizabeth, Katherine, Alexa, Edward, Earl, Joseph, and Benjamin as well as thirteen grandchildren. Geoff is also survived by his brother, Christopher, and sister, Heather, holding their love in his heart. His family, and all those who knew him, were lucky to have him in their lives.
