Helen G. Dewey, 88, passed away, Friday, October 5, 2017 at Regency Assisted Living in Pullman, Washington with family by her side. Helen Georgia Robinson Gardner Dewey was born to Paul and Edith Robinson on April 5, 1929 at the family home in Cathart, Washington. She attended Cathart Grade School and Snohomish High School. She married Gordon Gardner in 1946. They had 4 children. They were later divorced. She enjoyed working as a waitress, and she last worked at the Nobby Inn (now the Breakfast Club) in Moscow, Idaho. She sang in the Camas Choir while living in Grangeville and the Sweet Adelines in Lewiston for a short time. In 1974, Helen married Jim Dewey in Grangeville, Idaho. They moved to Potlatch where Jim worked for the US Forest Service. They built their home in Princeton, Idaho in 1978. Jim passed away in 2000, and Helen moved into Moscow in 2004. She enjoyed many trips with the Idaho Roadrunners as well as trips with her family. This included trips to Costa Rica and Ecuador. She loved to travel and was always ready to eat out. She played Bingo and Rummikub with 3 special friends every Friday afternoon. We had to plan our visits around her busy schedule. Helen loved to cook and shared food with all her family and friends, including her homemade apple butter. She loved all sports and tried to get to most of her grandkids games and other events. She watched the Seattle Mariners even when they were losing, and attended games when she could, even their training camp in Arizona. She loved Gonzaga basketball and the Seahawks. She was known for her very large collection of anything owl. She is survived by her children; Gordon (Pat) Gardner, Carol (Dennis) Pittmann, Larry Gardner, John Gardner, all of Oakesdale; stepdaughters, Rita (Dick) Bottger, Clarkston, Carla (Kurt) Olmstead, Lewiston, Leah (Jim) Desmond of Air Way Heights; sister, Doris Oberg Wisconsin; grandchildren, Brad, Kelli, Brian, Amy, Kara, Daniele, Tyler, Mandy, Adrian, Dash, Walker, and Mary; 13 great-grandchildren and with another one on the way in November. She is preceded by her husband Jim; stepdaughter, Debi Aspelund; grandson Kristopher Helt; daughter-in-law, LeAnn Gardner; her parents; sister, June Rush; and brother, Harold Robinson. Memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Shorts Funeral Chapel. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall of the Moscow Nazarene Church.
