Jack Brady

September 8, 1943 — July 24, 2024

Bovill, ID

Jack A. “Stomper” Brady, 80-year-old resident of Bovill, passed away at Valley Vista Memory Care in St. Maries on Wednesday, July 24, 2024. He was born to Alfred and Susan Brady on Sept. 8, 1943, in Holland, Ark. He was the third of four children. In 1946, their father moved Jack and his siblings Becky Kellom, Mary Jane Milliken and Joe Brady to Bovill, so he could work logging big timber in Idaho. He was killed working on Moscow Mountain on Nov. 6, 1948. The family moved back to Arkansas, then returned to Bovill in 1955. Jack felt he had moved to “God’s Country” never to leave.

Jack graduated from Deary High School in 1960 alongside the good friends who made his high school years unforgettable. Jack’s first job out of high school was greasemonkey and scaler for Potlatch Forest. He also worked at the J. R. Simplot Plant in Bovill a few years later. On June 14, 1963, he married Leah Ann Candler, and they had three daughters: Dana, Suzanne and Sara. He took up a new career then as a log truck driver for Bruce Baumgartner. This was his passion for 42 years, and he was considered one of the best drivers in the area, and a mentor to many. He was also a fisherman, hunter, four-wheeler adventurer, NASCAR enthusiast and a lifelong 49ers fan.

Jack was always there to support his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren no matter what kind of activity they were participating in. He loved them all.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Susan; sisters Becky and Mary Jane; father- and mother-in-law Don and Margaret Candler; brother-in-law Tom Candler; and nieces Mandy Brady, Laura Beth Nolan and Denise Ayers. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Leah Ann; daughters Dana (Stan) Bussanich, Suzanne (Brad) Batey and Sara (Rob) Anderson; brother Joe; brother-in-law Don Candler; grandchildren Danielle and Steven Bergan, Tyler and Jessica Batey, and Morgan and Cody Yearout; great-grandchildren Isaiah and Theo Bergan, Sam and Tucker Batey, Olivia and Levi Pulley, and Graham Yearout; and nieces and nephews Dallisa Eggers, Dalaina Irvin, Brady Milliken and Jason Brady.

There will be a service at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Presbyterian Church in Bovill, followed by a celebration of life dinner at 2 p.m. in Downtown City Park. A light meal will be provided, but the family would appreciate if you brought your favorite dish to share. Bring lawn chairs if possible, as provided tables and seating are limited. There will be a memorial tree planting in the park by family and friends. Jack helped to develop the park into the community space it is now. Please consider donating in his name to the City of Bovill Caroline Park fundraiser to further that development. It would be very much appreciated.
