Jamie Sutcliffe

Jamie Sutcliffe passed away unexpectedly on Saturday February 13, 2016 at his home in Viola, ID. Jamie was born August 16, 1961 in Seattle, WA to Jim and Anita Sutcliffe. He was the second of six children and dubbed "Big Blue" by his Grandad for his blue eyes. He went through school in Redmond, WA, graduating from Redmond High School where he was photographer for the yearbook and first learned his craft of ceramics. He attended University of WA briefly and earned his Associates degree in Business at Bellevue College, where he also enjoyed many courses in Volleyball and Pottery. From a young age Jamie chose to serve God and throughout his life was able to participate in the fellowship meetings and listen in to the Gospel meetings. He was fiercely loyal, loving and protective of his friends and family. He moved to Blaine, WA in 1994 and set up a pottery studio with his wheels and kilns and first offered his wares for sale. When he came to Viola, ID in 2005 his studio came too, and for the last nine years he has had a booth at the Moscow Farmer's Market. He loved the close-knit family of vendors there and they looked out for him as well. Many thanks for that. Jamie loved to teach his craft to anyone who would sit at his potter's wheel and was always pleased with their creations. Most everyone that knew him has a "Jamie" mug or plate or bowl to remember him by. At the age of 19 Jamie was diagnosed with Schizoaffective Disorder which he battled for the rest of his life. The love and care of friends, family and counselors allowed him to live on his own. Special thanks to the Viola community for their friendship and support. In these last years Jamie, in turn, has been a great help to his parents next door. When he took his own life, the investigating detective said there were no signs of premeditation and it appeared that he died quietly. For this we are also thankful. Jamie is survived by his parents Jim and Anita Sutcliffe of Viola, ID and his 5 brothers and sisters: John Sutcliffe and his wife Becky of Meridian, ID; Mike Sutcliffe and his wife Cheryl of Anacortes, WA; Margaret Gieszelmann and her husband Jared of Viola, ID; Juanita Sutcliffe of Renton, WA; and Cat Sutcliffe of Denver, CO. He also leaves nieces and nephew Lindsey McCuaig with her husband Chris and daughter Brynnley; Julie Sutcliffe; Chelsea Sutcliffe; Brooke Sutcliffe; Brandon Gieszelmann and Laurel Gieszelmann. A Memorial Service will be held 11am Saturday, February 20th at Gladish Community and Cultural Center Auditorium 115 NW State St Pullman, WA 99163. Potluck reception from Noon to 2pm upstairs in the View room. Parking on the west side.
