Janice Jane Bosse

Aug 13, 1943 — Oct 24, 2026

Janice Jane (Peterson) Bosse, a longtime resident of Moscow, Idaho, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2026, at the age of 83, surrounded by her four children and her sister.

Janice was born on August 13, 1943 in Colfax, Washington to Lloyd and Veronica (Meemken) Peterson. Her early childhood was defined by constant change. By the time she was 13 years old, her family had lived in 15 different houses. The family settled in Moscow when Janice was 10 years old. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and was a student in its first eighth-grade graduating class and, later, graduated from Moscow High School in 1961.

On May 5, 1962, Janice married the love of her life, Daniel James Bosse, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. A year later, they purchased the home they would share, and where Janice would continue to live for 63 years. Janice and Dan were blessed with 58 years of marriage until Dan’s passing in 2020. They did everything together and were each other’s biggest supporters.

Just before graduating from high school, Janice began her career at the University of Idaho in the 4-H Extension Service Office. Exactly forty years later, she retired from a distinguished career marked by decades of dedication and numerous prestigious honors. Janice was twice named an Outstanding University of Idaho Employee and was later inducted into the Idaho 4-H Hall of Fame. She also held the distinct honor of becoming the first Idaho recipient of the USDA Award for Superior Service, which was presented to her by the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Agriculture in Washington, D.C.

Janice lived a full, vibrant, and active life. She enjoyed sewing and gardening and cherished family vacations spent traveling across the US and abroad. Janice and Dan shared many summers boating on Lake Coeur d’Alene with their children and grandchildren. They often spent winter months in Maui, relaxing on the beaches and hiking the mountains and volcanoes.

Known for her energy, Janice stayed active with daily walks, exercise classes, and numerous social activities with friends and organizations. These included Club 61 (MHS Class of 1961), the Idaho Retired Postmasters, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Those who knew her will remember her bright spirit, active presence in the community, and fondness for strawberry waffles and, especially, vanilla milkshakes.

Janice’s greatest joy was spending time with her family and she took immense pride in the lives and achievements of her children. During the last two years, she devoted tremendous time and effort documenting her life stories and memories in a book; preserving her personal account of the life she lived and the people she loved. Janice will be remembered for her deep love of family and for the steadfast presence, devotion, and care that shaped the lives of those closest to her.

She is survived by her four children: Julie (Lee) Muller of Washington; Jerry Bosse of Virginia; Jaqueline (Luke) Newcomb of Texas; and Jami (Bryant) Gilbertson of Virginia. She is also survived by her brother, Dennis (Kathy) Peterson of Lewiston, Idaho and sister, Irene (Shannon) McAdams of Spokane Valley, Washington.

Janice had seven grandchildren: Leann (Jason) Boekel, Cami (Bobby) Prochaska, Brooke (Michael) Nutter, Rylee Bosse (Caleb Malaer), Parker Newcomb, Bryce Gilbertson, and Brieana Gilbertson. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren: Neil and McKenzielee Boekel; Khloe and Chase Prochaska; Fe’, Christopher, Reagan, and Gabriel Nutter; and Stanley Newcomb.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel, and their infant son, Douglas; brothers, Marvin (Marge) Peterson and Gary (Janice) Peterson; and grandson, Parker Newcomb.
