Jeanne Leah Borders

Jeanne was born Dec. 8, 1959 to Orrin (Junior) Martin and Margaret Marlene Martin in Orofino, Idaho. She passed away Tuesday, Sep 22. 2026 at her home in Moscow, Idaho.

She was the third of five children who grew up in Pierce. Her mom was so excited to finally have a girl to dote over. Jeanne was sandwiched between two older brothers and two younger brothers, and always had one of her brothers watching out for her. Jeanne attended Pierce Elementary/Junior High School and Timberline High School.

After High School, in 1978 she moved to San Antonio, Texas to live with her brother and her sister-in-law. While there she met Dale Ricketts, who was serving in the Air Force, and on July, 17 1979 they married, and had two children together: Daniel and Michael. From 1988 to 2002 she was married Steve Brooks and they moved from Texas back to her home town Pierce. They also had two children together: Matthew and Kellie. In 2007 Jeanne had a brief marriage to James Borders.

She was not one to shy away from work. She started working when she was 14 years old and bought all of her own school clothes for her freshman year of High School. In fact, the day she passed away at 66 years old (two months shy of 67) she had to leave work early because she was feeling ill. For many years she was a care giver at various assisted living facilities in the region.

Jeanne was a true country girl who loved the outdoors, taking in God’s creation whether gathering mushrooms, picking huckleberries, hunting, casting a line in the water, or camping and sleeping under the stars.

At home, her talents in the kitchen brought comfort to everyone fortunate enough to taste her baking. Above all her hobbies and talents, her family was her world. Being a grandmother was her absolute greatest joy, pouring endless love into her precious grandbabies. Her legacy of faith and love will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her mother Margaret Marlene Martin, father Orrin (Junior) Martin, and brothers Dan Martin and Ron Martin. She is survived by her loving children Daniel Ricketts, Michael Ricketts (Kristiana), Matthew Brooks (Roxanne), and Kellie Brooks (Sean) Her brothers Randy Martin (Kathy), Don Martin (Sherry), her grandchildren, numerous Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

Services will take place on Oct. 1st at Sacred Hearts Catholic Church located at 205 Birch Ave. E., Lapwai. There will be a Rosary at 11:30 AM followed by a Mass at Noon. A reception following Mass will be held next door in the church hall.
