Joan Marie Reardon, nee Neuman, lived on earth from April 13, 1955 to May 19, 2025. Now gone to Heaven, she is survived by beloved husband Jude Reardon and 7 children: Lydia (Chris) Labelle, Naomi (Daniel) Yaude, Ruth Anna (Kenneth) Burk, Luke Jacob (Meleah) Reardon, Seth (Courtney) Reardon, Miriam (Seth) Clark, & Julia (Joshua) Pereyda, and 22 grandchildren, including little William who met her in Heaven, and by her brother Edward Neuman.
Joni was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan and graduated from Catholic Central High School.
She was clever and very handy, with many interests and hobbies, including upholstery projects and seat weaving, sewing, weaving on a loom, quilting, building and repairing, printmaking, watercolor, drawing, woodcarving, creating yearly extended family photo calendars, caring for pets, dogs, birds, and fish. She loved camping at Winchester Lake State Park and participating in cribbage marathons.
She was employed at various times in food service, at Yellowstone National Park, as a hostess at Denny’s, and at WSU football games. She also worked in a framing shop, at Master Cleaners with her mother in Grand Rapids, and doing factory assembling, telemarketing, and as an ASL communicator.
Joni was known by others for her care. And even when fighting cancer she was busy cooking, cleaning, and loving others, especially her family. A friend lovingly called her actions, “aggressive hospitality”. She offered lodging and well-prepared, beautifully presented foods to many who crossed her path. She was generous with her time and attention. She especially loved the older generation.
She loved her grandchildren and often blessed them with colored finger jello, sherbet cups made with Sprite, deli foods from Winco (her favorite store), and she always sent them along with a snack.
Joni was raised Roman Catholic, and from childhood had a love for Jesus. In 1977, shortly after her marriage to Jude, Joni and Jude openly professed their faith in Christ in an Evangelical Church.
She was a faithful and appreciated pastor's wife for 23 years in several Reformed churches in Maine, Iowa, and Idaho.
She believed deeply in the sovereignty of God and encouraged others to not worry about what should be left up to Him. She always knew that she and others were in God’s hands.
Her quiet encouragement can be summed up with this anecdote. A couple of years ago at a ladies Bible study, the ladies were discussing how they should live their lives for Christ. Though Joni was most often a quiet learner, she offered to read Hebrews 10:24 –which says, “And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works.” She looked up from her Bible, smiled, and said, “Game on, Ladies!”
The memorial service will be held on June 14 at 11 a.m. at Christ Church Hall, 820 Dominion Way, Moscow ID 83843.
