John Wanvig

September 15, 1952 — December 30, 2025

John Wanvig, a distinguished attorney, devoted husband and father, and passionate humanitarian, departed this world to the glory of heaven and presence of Jesus on December 30, 2025, amidst the serene surroundings of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Born on September 15, 1952, in the vibrant city of Los Angeles, California, John's life was a tapestry woven with rich experiences, compassion, and an insatiable thirst for knowledge.

Educated at Vanguard University, John further pursued his passion for law and theology by achieving his Master’s degree in Christian Apologetics and a Juris Doctor from the Simon Greenleaf School of Law, now known as Trinity Law School. His education laid the foundation for a prolific career that spanned decades, during which he ardently championed justice and advocated for the rights of others.

Beyond the courtrooms of Southern California, John was an intrepid world traveler, embracing the cultures and histories of nations far and wide. His adventures were not merely for personal enrichment; they were intertwined with countless missions dedicated to international aid, leaving an indelible mark on the lives he touched. As a student of history, he understood the complexities of the human experience and often engaged in long, enriching conversations that left listeners both enlightened and inspired.

John's personality was characterized by warmth and generosity. He possessed a natural inclination to help others, always ready with a kind word or a helping hand. His love for books was well-known; he was a collector whose literary shelves brimmed with works that reflected his diverse interests and intellectual curiosity.

In his cherished role as husband and father, John found profound joy in the company of his beloved family. He is survived by his loving wife, Katie, and their three children: John, Zachary, and Esther. The legacy of his kindness and warmth continues to thrive through his granddaughter, Ella, who carries the essence of her grandfather’s spirit within her.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Blanche, whose guidance and support shaped the values that defined his remarkable life. Their memory remains a vital part of John’s narrative, forever intertwined with the love and lessons they imparted.

As we remember John Wanvig, we celebrate a life beautifully lived, marked by meaningful connections, an unwavering dedication to justice, and an enduring spirit of kindness that will echo through the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life serves as a reminder to us all to engage deeply with the world, to seek knowledge and understanding, and to extend a hand to those in need.

A Celebration of Life will be held on January 17th, 2026 at the Paradise Hills Church of God in Moscow, Idaho at 2 PM for friends and family who loved John. A zoom link will be provided to family that cannot make it upon request. John is laid at rest in the Viola Cemetery just North of Moscow surrounded by the rolling wheat fields that he loved amongst the presence of dear friends. As John firmly believed, the chief end of man is to glorify God, and enjoy Him forever. We can be sure that he is doing exactly that right now, free from pain, and sorrow, and the suffering he endured for so long towards the end.

In Christ alone was his hope found!
