Joseph Mccaffrey

Joseph P. McCaffrey, (64) of Moscow, died Friday February 19, 2016. Joe spent the last 21 years trying to live with a malignant brain tumor.

Joseph was born in April 1951, in Providence, Rhode Island to Joseph and Esther McCaffrey. He grew up in Warwick, Rhode Island and graduated from Pilgrim High School in 1969.The first in his family to go to college Joseph received his Bachelors in Biology from Rhode Island University, and his Master and PhD in

Entomology from Virginia Tech. In 1981 Joseph moved to Moscow after accepting a post-doctorate position at the University of Idaho to research the biological control of weeds and insects. Shortly after moving to Moscow, he met Karen Buta and the couple were married on June 2, 1984 in Troy Idaho.

Joseph was a professor at the U of I for 28 years.

Joseph is survived by his wife Karen Buta-McCaffrey, sisters Sue, Rosemary (Roger) Ball, Elaine (Donald)

Bucci, and brother Robert McCaffrey.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
