Joyce Lea (King) Packard, 86, Viola

Joyce Lea (King) Packard, 86, of Viola entered into the loving arms of her Savior on November 12, 2017. She was born on May 24, 1931, south of Potlatch, Idaho at the family home on Rock Creek Road, to Kenneth & Helen (Mustian) King. She attended school in Potlatch, Idaho, graduating in 1950. She met Cecil Packard in May of 1949 and they were married in August of 1950. Fifty days after their wedding, they moved to San Diego as Cecil was called back into the Navy. Their first son was born in San Diego and when they moved back to the Moscow area in 1952, two more sons and a daughter were born. Joyce and Cecil moved to Viola in 1959 and lived in the area for the remainder of their lives. Joyce loved being a mother to her four children and was an excellent homemaker. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, crocheting, and sewing. She was also a cub scout leader for a time and belonged to multiple clubs and civic organizations. She spent many years working the elections in Viola. Joyce was also an active partner in the family's cattle and timber ranch operations. She was a long time member of the Moscow Church of the Nazarene, serving in various capacities. She especially enjoyed hearing about the missions' work and went on Work & Witness trips to South Africa, Israel, and the Philippines. She also enjoyed traveling and made trips to Alaska, England, Australia and New Zealand. Joyce is survived by her three sons, Rob (Liz) of Coeur d' Alene; Michael (Laura Walter) of Alaska; Larry (Angie) of Viola and daughter Linda Ballsmith (Dave) of California; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, in-laws, and siblings. Joyce was a very committed Christian and lived her life following her Savior. She was a very loving mother and friend and is now in the presence of Jesus. A memorial service will be held Monday, November 20, 2017, 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene in Moscow, Idaho. Per Joyce's wishes, she asked that bright colors are worn as this will be a celebration of her life. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall at the church. Memorial donations are suggested to Samaritan's Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone NC 28607. Arrangements have been entrusted to Short's Funeral Chapel, Moscow, and online condolences may be sent to www.shortsfuneralchapel.net.
