June Annette Brooks Dorner, 94, of Troy peacefully passed to her rest Wednesday April 22, 2026 at the home of her daughter. She spent the last three years of her life here with Dixie and her son-in-law Darrell.
Born July 22, 1931 in long Prairie, Minnesota to Carson and Nellie VanBlaricom Brooks, joining brother Gordon. She enjoyed a true country childhood with her neighbor and cousin Norma. At age 17 the family moved to Wenatchee, Washington where she finished her senior year of high school. She went to Walla Walla College and Began nursing school. After 2 years there her class went to Portland for the 2 years of hospital training. This is where she met her husband Roger Dorner. He was one of two men in the nursing class. They married in September of 1954 and Roger started his pre-med classes at Walla Walla College. In June of 1956 daughter Dixie was born. Shortly after they moved to Loma Linda, California for Roger to begin medical school. After 2 years there he decided that being a doctor wasn’t for him and they moved to Wenatchee. This is where son Duke was born in 1958. Roger began a long career in construction building houses and developing property. June was the painter on the crew. Both children grew up helping at the job site and learning many skills.
June and Roger had a very full life. They were active in the Wenatchee Seventh Day Adventist Church holding many different offices. June played the piano and organ for services her entire life. Her children remember a table full of friends enjoying a meal together after church every week. They golfed together and weekly card games rotated among the friends homes for years. As life long birders they especially enjoyed their birding tour to Costa Rica. They were able to travel extensively with trips to Europe, Panama, Mexico, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Canada, and many states in the USA. In retirement they enjoyed many winters as snowbirds golfing in the warmer south. Their children remember numerous Christmas vacation trips to California and one adventure driving to Mexico City. Most of their children’s summer memories include weekly trips to Lake Chelan with friends swimming and water skiing. First at the state park and then at the cabin of their friends Jerry and Marie Dawes.
June will be remembered as a loving wife, nurturing mother, and loyal friend to many. She was a lover of jigsaw puzzles and word search books. For many years she wrote a weekly letter to her daughter as well as communicating with her many friends and relatives. If you were on her list you received a birthday card with a stick of gum every year without fail. She enjoyed many happy hours thrift shopping and passed this along to her daughter and granddaughter Denae’.
June is survived by her daughter Dixie Hunt, Son Duke (Connie) Dorner, grandchildren Denae’ (Jason) Kramer, Devin (Laura) Hunt, Taylor Dorner, Hayden Dorner and great grandchildren Aria Hunt and Henry Dorner. She is also survived by her cousin Norma Morrison and niece Becky (Butch) Moore.
