Kathryn Mcgahan

Kathryn Jeanne McGahan, a lifelong resident of Troy, passed away Monday, November 10, at the age 82. Kathryn's life was committed to her community, her church and her family. Kathryn was born December 9, 1931 and adopted as an infant by Alfred and Hanna Anderson Sandell of Troy. She grew up in Troy, graduating from Troy High School in 1949. She married Dale McGahan at the Troy Lutheran Church that same year. Kathryn began playing the organ at Troy Lutheran Church at the age of 16, and later was recognized for her fifty five years of continuous service. She was active in many aspects of the church including the music and worship committee. Early in their marriage, she attended the University of Idaho and worked for Troy School District. She partnered with Dale, drove and delivered milk and eggs three mornings a week to homes in the area. In 1961 The McGahan's opened an independent insurance agency where she served as office manager. She worked in the admissions office at Washington State University for 18 years until her retirement. She was very proud of the fact that all four of her grandchildren attended or graduated from WSU while she was working there. She looked forward to the gathering of the "Birthday Club" each month when she could get together with friends. She derived much joy from her husband, children and grandchildren Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Dale at the family home. . Three children: Marshall (Deborah) McGahan, Everett, WA; , Kristine (Kirk) Lightfield, Indio, CA,; and Paul McGahan, Everett, WA; 4 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Troy Lutheran Church with a luncheon to follow in the Church Fellowship Hall. A private burial will precede the service at Burnt Ridge Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the Troy Lutheran Church Music/Organ Fund or the Troy Ambulance Fund. Arrangements have been made through Short's Funeral Chapel, Moscow and online condolences may be sent to www.shortsfuneralchapel.net.
