Ken Johnson

Kenneth Albert Johnson of Troy died Friday, April 24, 2015 at Gritman Medical Center in Moscow. He was 71. Ken was born July 9, 1943 in Moscow to Archie F. and Virginia C. (Olson) Johnson. He grew up and attended school in Deary, graduating from Deary High School in 1961. Ken served in the US Navy from 1961-1966 aboard the USS Forrestal. Following his discharge, he attended Spokane Community College studying electronics. Ken and Kathleen Viola Helm Horn were married at the Troy Christian Church on November 23, 1975. Ken worked at the University of Idaho College of Education as an audio-visual technician, then at Moscow-Pullman TV Cable, later becoming Adelphia Communications, as chief technician from 1978 until retiring in July of 2005. He was a member of the NW Tristate Amateur Radio Organization and Palouse Hills Amateur Radio Club, the Masonic Lodge, Elks Lodge, Latah County Shrine Club and Latah County Vandal Boosters, serving as president at the time of his death. Ken was also a member of the Troy-Deary Gun Club and enjoyed trap shooting. Ken was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Willis. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kathleen, at their Troy home; daughters, Teresa (Douglas) Miller of Keizer, OR and Diane (Tony) Pizzuti of Corvallis, OR and a son, Kevin (Audra) Johnson of Moscow. He also leaves brothers, Don (Julie) Johnson and Doug (Vikie) Johnson all of Deary as well as his grandchildren, Hailey Miller Bauder, Ryan Miller, Josh (Mariya) Miller and Natasha Miller, Elijah, Alexis and Madison Pizzuti, and Ethan Johnson, a great grandson, Aiden Bauder and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Friday, May 1, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow. Pastor Randall "Nick" Nicolai of Troy Lutheran Church and Unity Lodge No. 32, A.F. & A.M. will officiate. Burial with military honors will be at the Moscow Cemetery and a potluck dinner will follow at the Troy Lutheran Church Social Hall. Viewing will be at Short's Funeral Chapel on Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 AM to 6 PM both days. The family suggests memorials be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, P.O. Box 2472, Spokane, WA 99210 or to the University of Idaho Vandal Scholarship Fund, c/o University of Idaho Foundation, 875 Perimeter Dr. MS 443147, Moscow, ID 83844-3147.
