Kenneth E. Quick

Kenneth Eugene Quick of Meridian, Idaho, and a former Moscow resident, died January 30, 2015. He was 83. Ken was born October 12, 1931 at Claremore, Oklahoma to August K. and Opal B. Nelson Quick. He grew up, attended school and graduated from high school there in 1949. He then enrolled at Oklahoma State University before joining the U.S. Navy and traveled to Hawaii, Hong Kong, Japan and the Philippines. Following his discharge in 1954, he continued his education, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry in 1960. He and Jane Watson were married on March 27, 1959 at Grove, OK. Ken's degree led him to work for the US Government for 30 years, retiring in 1983. That year he went to work for the University of Idaho as supervisor of the University's Forest Nursery. He received the Outstanding Employee Award in 1990 and the Outstanding Continuing Education and Service Award in 1994, retiring from UI in 1996. While in Moscow, they were active members of the Moscow Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed bowling on several leagues throughout the years, golfing, mall walking and his "coffee clutches." They moved to Missoula, MT in 2001 where Ken was involved volunteering at St. Patrick's Hospital and driving for the Meals on Wheels program for several years. In 2006 he received the Senior of the Year Award because of his dedication and commitment to service. In 2007, Ken received the Daily Points of Light Award with a Presidential Congratulatory letter. The award honors individuals and volunteer groups that have made a commitment to connect Americans through service to help meet critical needs in their communities. Jane died in February of 2006. Ken moved to the Boise area about 3 years ago to be near his daughter and family. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Scott Schumacher of Meridian, a son, Kenney Quick of Kennewick, WA and granddaughters, Kylie and Madison Schumacher. He also leaves two sisters, Betty Damron of Russellville, Arkansas and Opal Kelly of Cameron, Missouri. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow. A reception and luncheon will follow at the Moscow Nazarene Church Fellowship Hall. A private burial will precede the service at the Moscow Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to any Hospice Organization or to the Cancer Society.
