Larry Ray Hasfurther, 81, of Genesee, Idaho, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, at Gritman Medical Center in Moscow, Idaho, after a battle with cancer. Born on May 19, 1944, he spent his whole life in Genesee, where he loved family, friends, and his community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Ed Hasfurther, and his brothers, Urban and baby Gene. Larry is survived by his beloved sister, Marie Nearing of Moscow, Idaho; nieces Karolyn Nearing of Hillsboro, Oregon, and Karla Horton (Pat) of Spokane, Washington; and grand-nieces Lexi and Emma Horton. He had a close relationship with his cousin Diane Meyer (Roy) and their children Brian (Angie), Bryce (Terri), and Jay (Jody).
Larry worked for 36 years at the Genesee Union Warehouse and loved helping on the family farm. He had a great sense of humor and loved making people laugh. He enjoyed giving nicknames, joking around, and bringing a smile to everyone he met.
He loved being outdoors, especially camping, snowmobiling, and spending time with his horses. He enjoyed rounding up cattle and being in the mountains. A big sports fan, he rarely missed a game, cheering for Genesee High School teams, Gonzaga basketball, the University of Idaho, the Seattle Seahawks, and all things wrestling. In quieter moments, he enjoyed settling in to watch a good Western and spending time with his dogs.
Larry will be remembered for his funny, kind-hearted nature, his loyalty to family and friends, and the joy he brought to everyone around him. He will be deeply missed.
A service to celebrate Larry’s life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 138 N Jackson St, Genesee, ID 83832. The rosary will begin at 10:30 AM, followed by the funeral mass at 11:00 AM. A reception will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Center following the burial.
