Lillian “Evelyn” Crumley, 92, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026, surrounded by the love and memories of a life well lived.
Evelyn was born on June 29, 1934, in Potlatch, Idaho, to Fred and Vera Pool. Her family later moved to Palouse, where she grew up and attended Palouse High School. Evelyn was a dedicated and accomplished student, graduating as valedictorian of the Class of 1952.
That same year, Evelyn married the love of her life, Melvin, on August 17, 1952. From the beginning, they built their life together with love, hard work, and devotion to their family. Their daughter, Shelley, was born in 1953, and in 1954, Evelyn and Melvin returned to Potlatch. Their son, Ron, was born in 1956, completing their family.
In 1965, Evelyn began working in the office at the Potlatch Mill, where she remained until the mill closed. She later worked part-time for Latah County before retiring in 1999. In 1968, Evelyn and Melvin built the home that would become the heart of their family for more than five decades. They remained there until 2024. That home held a lifetime of memories—family gatherings, laughter, quiet moments, and the everyday joys of the life they built together. It was much more than a house; it was home.
Evelyn found happiness in the simple things and enjoyed staying active and spending time with the people she loved. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, boating, counted cross-stitch, and playing pinochle. She was also a member of the Lewis-Clark ATV Club, where she enjoyed being outdoors, exploring, and sharing time with others in her community.
Above all, Evelyn cherished her family. She leaves behind a lifetime of memories and the love she gave so freely to those around her. She will be remembered for her strength, her dedication, her love of family, and the many ways she touched the lives of those who knew her.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Shelley Nagle and Ron Crumley; her grandchildren, Sam Crumley, Julie Capper, and Nicole Hammons; her step-grandchildren, Dan Carscallen and Toby Carscallen; and her great-grandchildren, Avery and Rowan Hammons, and Maggie and Archie Capper.
Though she is no longer with us, Evelyn’s memory will live on in the family she and Melvin built, in the stories shared around the table, in the places that held so many special memories, and in the hearts of all who loved her.
Memorial donations may be made to Potlatch Ambulance in Evelyn’s memory.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026, at the Princeton Church of the Nazarene in Princeton, Idaho. A graveside service will follow at Potlatch City Cemetery, with a reception afterward at the church.
