Lyla May Franklin, born in 1932 in Spokane, Washington, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, surrounded by family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Colonel Glenn Franklin, USAF (2010); sister Marion Ann Brown (2016); brother Ed Cole (2002); and parents Lyle and Maybelle Cole.
Lyla met Glenn at a Halloween party in Potlatch, Idaho, beginning a lifelong love story that took them around the world through Glenn’s Air Force career. Together they made homes in Idaho, Louisiana, Okinawa, Tennessee, Germany, Washington State, Ohio, Florida and ultimately back to Idaho, creating lasting memories and friendships wherever they went.
She is survived by her four sons—Steven, Bryan (Donna), Jason (Marilyn), and Bruce
(Anissa)—eight grandchildren—Connie, Neal, Cole, Corey, Chase, Allie, Sean, and
Cassidy—and two great-grandchildren, Stone and Link.
Lyla will be remembered for her warmth, humor, and devotion to family. Her love and grace touched all who knew her.
In Lieu of flowers memorials can be made in honor of Lyla to the National Multiple Sclerosis Foundation or St Judes Children’s Hospital.
A memorial service is planned for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow. A reception will follow in the Silver Room at the University Inn Best Western.
