Margo Kay Britzmann

Margo Kay Britzmann, 66, of Troy, Idaho, passed away on March 9, 2026, at Paradise Creek Health and Rehabilitation of Cascadia in Moscow, Idaho. Margo faced lung cancer and the effects of its treatment for five years, far exceeding expected survival. She took the challenge with determination and stubborn strength, supported by her oncology team, family, and friends. She was grateful for the extra years she enjoyed at Lake Coeur d’Alene, on Kauai, and even attending a Packers game at Lambeau Field. Her bucket list had been fulfilled.

Margo was born in Bad Cannstatt, Germany, to Burt and Joan Britzmann. She was one of six children. When she was two, the family moved to Moscow, Idaho. As the second-youngest in a lively family with four brothers and an older sister, she grew up surrounded by humor, adventure, and activity. The family spent their time camping, swimming, snow skiing, and water skiing, and laughter was always close at hand.

Margo attended Moscow public schools and graduated from Moscow High School in 1978. As a teenager she became a ballet dancer with Ballet Folk, Idaho’s first ballet company. Her height and strength helped her progress quickly as a dancer. She loved this chapter of her life, performing her first choreographed piece to Dvořák’s Humoresque. She also enjoyed helping teach younger dancers.

After high school, Margo worked at various jobs. Margo trained at Mr. Leon’s School of Hair Design in Moscow, where she became a certified beautician. She later worked as a medical receptionist at the Moscow Clinic, which allowed her to spend time in the office with her father, Dr. Burt Britzmann. She also enjoyed going home for lunch with her brother Doak to watch their favorite soap opera, All My Children.

In 1995 Margo moved to Troy, where she purchased her home. She later met Curt Thomas, whom she married on Kauai in 2012, with her mother, brother Dan, and Curt’s daughter Hannah, in attendance. Margo and Curt’s home became a welcoming place for friends over the past fourteen years. It was also where Margo nurtured her love of gardening and cooking. Her deep affection for dogs and cats meant that many pets—often from the Humane Society—found loving homes with her. They were always close companions and a great joy in her life.

Margo loved horseback riding and cared for her own horse. She also enjoyed backpacking and camping in the mountains with friends. Summers were especially meaningful to her, spent with family at a floating cabin at Hidden Bay on Lake Coeur d’Alene and later at her trailer at Conkling Park. There she formed many lasting friendships and loved boating on the lake and up the St. Joe River.

Although she disliked cold weather, Margo delighted in Christmas. She had an impressive collection of decorations that filled every corner of her home and yard. Each winter she and Curt hosted friends in their snowy yard for fireworks, potluck, and drinks—a beautiful gathering of warmth and companionship.

Margo was independent, strong, and determined. These qualities helped her navigate life’s challenges. Above all, she had a deep love for her family and many dear friends.

Margo was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Doak. Margo is survived by her husband, Curt Thomas; her siblings, Dianne Thompson (John), Brad Britzmann (Leslie), Mitch Britzmann (Jean), and Dan Britzmann (Katy); Curt’s daughter Hannah Thomas; her nieces and nephews, Leslie, Steven, Elisabeth, Sophie, Sam, Brady, Monterey, KiKi; and family members from her Iowa roots.

Thank you to the staff of Paradise Creek skilled nursing unit for your compassionate care.

In her memory, consider donating to the Humane Society of the Palouse , a cause close to Margo’s heart.
