Matthew Oulman

Matthew James Oulman of Moscow died Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Gritman Medical Center. He was 64. Matt was born May 21, 1951, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Donald and Marcella Bjerke Oulman. His family later settled in Spokane where Matt graduated from North Central High School in 1969. He then went to work for Zinn's and Sons Electrical and Fire Inspection before his employment with Johnson Controls. That position took him to New Hampshire, Ohio, Florida, and Washington states. He moved to Moscow, Idaho, in 1987 where he took the position of Fire Safety Specialist at the University of Idaho. He also helped with training the Moscow Volunteer Fire Department. Matt enjoyed woodworking, cooking, winemaking, photography, genealogy, technology, gardening, bonsai, and sports. He was a loyal fan of Cougar Football and Gonzaga Basketball. He and Linda Olson were married in Spokane in 1972 and had two sons, Nathan and Zachary, later divorcing. Matt and Christine Davis Weigley were married in Moscow in 2009. She survives at their home in Moscow. Also surviving are his sons, Nathan (Tanyia) Oulman and Zachary Oulman all of Sandpoint; a step-son, Jesse (Alison) Weigley and a step-daughter, Rebecca (Brad) Miller all of Moscow. He also leaves three grandchildren, Baylee, Megan and Logan Oulman; his mother, Marcella Gallagher of Spokane; his sisters, Donna (Eric) Sorte of Spokane and Marie (Leonard) Sanders of Georgia, a half-sister, Ellen Platt of Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his father, a brother, Steven Oulman, and a half-brother, Russell Gallagher. The funeral service will be held Saturday, August 1st, at 1:30 pm at Short's Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at the Moscow Cemetery. An informal celebration of Matt's life will follow at the 1912 Building from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, where his family and friends can share their memories and some refreshments. The family suggests memorials be made to the Moscow Volunteer Fire Department.
