Maurine "Rene" Finney

Maurine “Rene” Dorothy Finney, born July 16, 1939 in Moscow, Idaho, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026.

Rene grew up on her family’s farm in Genesee, Idaho, the daughter of John and Rowena Luedke. Life on the farm shaped her into a strong, capable, and steady woman — qualities that stayed with her throughout her life. After graduating from Genesee High School, she attended the University of Idaho, where she was a proud member of Alpha Phi and formed friendships that stayed with her for decades.

Over the years, Rene made homes in Idaho, Washington, New Jersey, and Texas. Wherever she lived, she was known for her strength, her practicality, and her friendly, downtoearth nature. She met life’s challenges directly, with the same determination she learned in her early years.

Rene found joy in creating things with her hands. She spent many years sewing and embroidering, crafting pieces that reflected her patience and attention to detail. She also loved working with ceramics, a hobby that let her blend creativity with the quiet determination she brought to everything she did.

She was a devoted 50year member of P.E.O., valuing the camaraderie and purpose she found in the sisterhood. Rene also volunteered for many years at the Cancer Resource Center at Gritman, offering steady support and a friendly presence to those who needed it.

Rene is survived by her two sons, Bruce Rigg (Bridget) and Robert Rigg (Susan), and her grandchildren, Chloe Rigg and Phoebe Rigg, who brought her great pride.

Her family and friends will remember her for her strength, her resilience, and the grounded, friendly spirit she carried through every chapter of her life.
