Patricia Gentry

Patricia Lynn Gentry of Moscow died as a result of cancer on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at her home and with her family surrounding her. She kept a sweet and positive attitude through her nearly seven years of treatment for her cancer. Patricia was born December 21, 1941 at Richfield, Idaho to Earl R. McCarter and Marjorie L. Moake McCarter. She grew up in Richfield and New Meadows, Idaho, and lived at New Albany, Kansas for a time before returning to Richfield where she graduated from high school. At Richfield, she picked potatoes in the fall for her school clothes, and she worked in Moscow at Johnnie's Cafe on Sixth Street in summers. While at the University of Idaho, she met Dale Gentry, also a student and they were married in Gooding, Idaho on June 23, 1962. They graduated in 1963, Pat with her degree in Medical Technology. They lived in Sumner, WA for three years, and then the Seattle area where Dale attended the University of Washington. In 1977, the family returned to Moscow and Pat re-enrolled at the UI, obtaining her Masters Degree in Special Education. She taught in Lewiston for a year, and then at McDonald Elementary School in Moscow, retiring in 2004. She also created, owned and operated "Basically Bagels" at the Eastside Mall for three years. Her family and children, hers and those she taught, were her passion. She advocated strongly for the children she taught, and she sponsored a child in Africa through World Vision. She also belonged to a Teacher's Book Club and attended Moscow Garden Club. She was a member of the United Church of Moscow, where she also helped lead the youth of the church. Surviving are her husband, Dale, at their home, and children, Dennis Gentry and wife Lindsay Marshall, Paul Gentry and wife Thessa Mondroy, and daughter Iris Mays and husband Delaney Mayes all of Moscow. She also leaves her beloved grandsons, Carter, Nolan, Liam, Max and Jack as well as a sister, Edith Proctor of Longmont, Colorado and a niece and nephew, Lon and Laurie. She was a beloved mother; her goal was to see that her children had a great education and she provided many activities and adventures outside of school such as visiting museums and zoos, camping, visiting relatives, and trekking to the pool. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Kevin Gentry in 1993. The family suggests memorials be made to the Moscow School District Developmental Preschool in care of the Moscow School District Office, 650 North Cleveland, Moscow Idaho, 83843. Donations will be accepted in honor of the Pat Gentry Family Charitable Fund. A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the 1912 Center in Moscow.
