Patricia Wade

August 25, 1929 — November 20, 2014

Patricia Ann Wade, 85 years old, passed away peacefully November 20, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Patty was born August 25, 1929 to Howard and Anne Goodell in Tacoma, Washington and lived in Centralia and Everett Washington while growing up. She lived in Sedro Woolley Washington her adult life and then moved to Good Samaritan Village in Moscow, Idaho five years ago to be closer to her daughter. Wanting to be a nurse, Patty pursued her R.N. training at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle. While finishing up her student nursing in Sedro Woolley, she met Wilbur Wade and they were married in 1950. Patty worked at the Memorial Hospital and the Hunter Clinic in Sedro Woolley for several years and then became the school nurse for Burlington Edison School District in 1960. She retired from the school district in 1985. She loved her job working with the students and faculty. She was the advisor for the Future Nurses of America in the high school and was involved with several state and local health organizations and projects. Patty loved her God and was a longtime member of St. James Episcopal Church and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church both in Sedro Woolley. For the past 5 years she has attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Moscow. Patty was active in her church family and loved to fellowship. She was always involved in some kind of volunteering. She was a member of the Sedro Woolley Soroptimist, Habitat for Humanity, United General Hospital Guild, Sedro Woolley Food Bank, Sedro Woolley Historical Museum, and a member of the Washington Retired Teachers Association. Patty participated in various exercise classes from Jazzercise, jogging on the Sedro Woolley running track, water aerobics at the health club, and Fit and Fall. She made friends easily and everyone loved her joyful, sweet spirit. She has been called the "Energized Bunny" because she always kept on going and trying new things. Patty appreciated music and had season tickets to several musical venues and theaters. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing Pinochle and poker. Patty also loved to travel and meet new people. She looked forward to going on cruises, visiting Hawaii, Mexico, and Branson, traveling abroad to London, and visiting family. She was adventurous and always enjoyed challenges like helicopter rides and para sailing in Mexico when she was in her 70's. Patty and Wilbur had two children. Tom Wade, who lives in Bellingham, Washington and Vicki Bird who lives in Princeton, Idaho with her husband Bill Bird. Patty has 6 grandchildren, Ryan (Trina) Wade of California, Dustin Wade, and Anthony Wade both living in Mt. Vernon, Washington, Andrew Findlay living in Virginia, Kaitlyn (Mason) Darling living in Oregon and Allison Findlay living in Idaho. Patty also has four great-grandchildren. Patty attended as many of the grandchildren's activities as she could. From baseball, wrestling, football, to snow skiing, snowmobiling and horse shows. She was always there cheering them on. Patty was blessed with having her family come and visit. Her brother Frank Goodell (93 years old) and two nieces, Gloria Wicklund and Leslie (Steve) Pike visited from Washington State. She also enjoyed the company of all of her grandchildren and her son Tom. She leaves behind a loving legacy for her family that includes her love and faithfulness for her God, family and friends, her service to others, and of course her cheerful smile will never be forgotten. Her life philosophy was "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intentions of arriving safely in a pretty well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, with a cup of coffee in one hand and chocolate in the other, and loudly proclaiming "WOW! What a ride! The family wishes to thank Good Samaritan Village and Gentivia Hospice for their excellent care and support this past year and a half. A memorial service will be held at Good Samaritan December 19th at 9:30a.m. There will also be a Catholic Mass in Sedro Woolley Washington at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church December 23, 2014, with mass beginning at 1:30 p.m. and reception following at 2:30 P.M. TO 4:30 P.M. Arrangements have been entrusted to Short's Funeral Chapel, Moscow, and online condolences may be sent to www.shortsfuneralchapel.net.
