Pauline Hermann

Pauline Marie (Zenner) Hermann, of Genesee and a life long area resident, died with family at her side on Friday, September 11, 2015 at Pullman Regional Hospital. She was 96. Pauline was born May 15, 1919 at Uniontown, one of 10 children of J. Peter and Gertrude (Zellerhoff) Zenner. She grew up there and attended the Taufen Country School near Uniontown, and later high school in Spokane. She moved to Genesee with her parents prior to her marriage to Clifford Raymond Hermann in Genesee on May 16, 1942. They farmed southeast of Genesee until they retired and moved into town. Pauline was the exemplary farm wife, helping with the day-to-day operations and cooking delicious meals for the harvest crews and will be remembered for her pies, raising a large garden and canning, all in addition to raising their six children. Their farm was recognized in 2011 as an "Idaho Century Farm". Pauline was also a devoted communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Genesee, a member of the Altar Society and Catholic Daughters of America, and was involved with the annual Harvest Dinner and Bazaar at the church. She still found time to quilt, crochet, embroider and was an avid Mariners, Gonzaga, and Genesee Bulldogs fan. She and Clifford were recognized as Bulldog Boosters of the Year in 1976. Every year she looked forward to their annual family camp out in the Blue Mountains of Oregon. Clifford died in May of 1999. She is survived by their children, Madeline (Gene) Shepherd of Camas, WA; Bernie (Diane) Hermann of Moscow; Gary (Joan) Hermann of Genesee; Carol (Dale) Braman and Myrna (Mark) Ketsdever all of Hillsboro, OR and Jim (Rita) Hermann of Genesee. She also leaves 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Her siblings are Joe Zenner of Craigmont, Pete Zenner of Nezperce, Paul Zenner of Lewiston, Harold Zenner of Culdesac and Lucille Guettinger of Pullman, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Clifford, Pauline was also preceded in death by two brothers, Al and Andy Zenner and two sisters, Eva Welle and Marie Fox. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Robert Spady and the staff at Bishop Place in Pullman for their exceptional care of Pauline and making her final years easier and more comfortable. Viewing will be at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow on Thursday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Genesee. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 19th at the church by Rev. Joseph McDonald and burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. A reception and luncheon will be at the Genesee High School Multi-purpose Room. The family suggests memorials be made to St. Mary's Church Endowment Fund or the Genesee Education Foundation.
