Ray Nelson, died on March 16, 2026, in Pullman, Washington. Born on January 17, 1941, in Moscow, Idaho, to Hjalmer and Pearl Nelson, Ray’s life was characterized by a commitment to service, a passion for his interests, and deep connections with family and friends.


Ray grew up in the Troy, Idaho, where he attended local schools and graduated from Troy High School. After completing his education, he embarked on a long and distinguished career with Washington State University. For over three decades, Ray worked in Farm Management, contributing his expertise and steadfast work ethic until his retirement from this role. His dedication to agriculture and education left a lasting impression on colleagues and the broader community alike.


Following retirement, Ray joined the Moscow School District as a bus driver, a position he held for several years. This role allowed him to maintain close ties to his local community.


Beyond his professional life, Ray was a man of varied interests and passions. He held a special affection for his turquoise 1969 GMC pickup truck, a vehicle he proudly displayed at car shows, earning numerous awards for its condition and presentation. Additionally, Ray enjoyed bowling and was an active member of the Palouse Promenaders, where he took pleasure in square dancing and fostering friendships that turned into lasting travel companionships.


Ray is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years, Marge Nelson of Pullman, his two sons, Kevin Nelson of Boise and Bob Nelson of Post Falls, as well as 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.


Services to honor Ray’s memory will be held at Short’s Funeral Chapel located at 1225 East 6th Street, Moscow, Idaho. A visitation is scheduled for March 21, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

A memorial service on March 26, 2026, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Short’s Funeral Chapel and a reception following in the Silver Room at the University Inn Best Western. These gatherings offer an opportunity for friends, family, and all who knew Ray to come together in remembrance of a man whose life was marked by dedication, warmth, and community.


Memorials in Rays honor may be sent to a charity of the donors choice.
