Richard Hugo Walser: April 9, 1949 – August 10, 2024
Richard Hugo Walser passed away due to a stroke on August 10, 2024, in Moscow, Idaho, age 75. Richard was born to Hugo and Dorothy Walser in Moscow, Idaho, on April 9, 1949. He graduated from Potlatch High School in 1967 and graduated from the University of Idaho in 1972 with a degree in Architecture. He married Vicki Lynn Newman in 1977. Richard farmed and raised cattle on the family farm near Potlatch for over thirty years. During this time, he served on the Latah County Grain Growers Board (two years as President) from 1981-1990, the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) County Committee from 1981-1990, the Palouse Grain Growers Board of Directors from 2001-2004, and the Farm Service Agency (FSA) County Committee from 2002-2005. From 2007 to 2012, Richard worked part-time in the hardware department at Tri-State in Moscow. From 2013 to 2019, he served as a Latah County Commissioner. Richard enjoyed using his architectural and building skills to do woodworking projects. He loved yardwork, landscaping, reading a variety of books, and visiting with people. He was a man with a great sense of humor and was a man of faith.
He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (David) Williams, sister Mary Ensley, and sister Judy (Lon) McConnel. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Hugo and Dorothy Walser, and his wife, Vicki Walser.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 7th, at 11 a.m. at the Bridge Bible Fellowship in Moscow, 960 West Palouse River Drive. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations can be made to the Potlatch Ambulance Fund, Box 63, Potlatch, ID 83855.
