Roy Krauss

Roy L. Krauss of Moscow died Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Aspen Park Healthcare. Roy was born August 18, 1926 at Ennis, Montana to John E. and Florence Daems Krauss. He grew up and started school at Norris, MT, then attended high school at Harrison, MT and graduated from Gallatin County High School at Bozeman. He worked at Montana Hardware Company in Great Falls, MT before entering the US Army in 1945. He served in the Pacific Theater and was discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1946. He returned to Norris and worked for his father at the Norris Texaco Station. He met Beverly McDowell and they were married on August 1, 1947 in McAllister, MT. The couple moved to Spokane while Roy attended Kinman Business College, and secured a position with Moore Business Forms. They lived in Wenatchee for a time before returning to Spokane when Roy accepted a position with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company as the store credit manager. In 1954 they moved to Moscow and was Sales Manager for Martin's Tire Service, which was incorporated in 1978 and became Martin's Auto Service Center. Roy became part owner and Manager of the Moscow Store until his retirement in 1989. Roy's son, Wayne, joined the firm in 1973 and took over management upon Roy's retirement. Roy was always active in the Moscow community, a longtime member of the Moscow Central Lion's Club, Jaycess and later Moscow Chamber of Commerce, served on the City Council from 1978-1982, Latah County Shrine Club, a charter member of the "Bowlerama" and was on many leagues throughout the years, The Moscow Moose Lodge and served as Lodge Administrator for 7 years, the Moscow Elks Lodge and Golf Club where he served as secretary for the Lodge and was an avid golfer, winning the "Sole Survivor" in 1982. Roy was also active in the Moscow Property Owners Association and was instrumental in the downtown revitalization project in the early 1980's. The family also enjoyed spending time at their float house on the lake and water skiing when time permitted. Roy is survived by his wife of nearly 68 years, Beverly, at their Moscow home, his son, Wayne and Gail Krauss of Moscow, his daughter, Maurece Vulcano of Spokane and his grandchildren, Travis and Branda Krauss of Canton, Ohio, Angie Vulcano and Jason and Andrea Krauss all of Spokane. He also leaves three great grandchildren, Ridge Krauss, Olivia Krauss and Semira Krauss. Roy was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Love in 2014. A memorial service and celebration of life is planned for Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow. A reception will follow at the Moscow Elks Club House. Private burial will precede the service at the Moscow Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the Moscow Ambulance Fund or to the Moscow Elks Golf Course.
