Royleen Dorothy Crossler

May 12, 1934 — January 6, 2024

Royleen Dorothy (Chaney) Crossler of Moscow, died Saturday January 6, 2024 at Paradise Creek Health and Rehabilitation of Cascadia in Moscow. She was 89.

Royleen was born at home in Viola on May 12, 1934 to Ira and Elzina Chaney. She grew up on the family farm and attended the Viola school before going to Palouse and later Moscow. While attending Moscow High School she met Richard “Dick” Crossler. The two were married December 27, 1950 in Viola, and they welcomed four children; sons Charles, Donald, Thomas and daughter Marcy. They raised their children in Moscow, where Royleen had a large garden for canning and it was well known that she had an open door policy, always offering her cooking to whoever would come by.

Royleen was an active member of the Moscow First United Methodist Church. It was through raising her children that she learned to give unselfishly to others. She became a member of Eastern Star, and Amaranth, and was a Cub Scout leader and Sunday school teacher.

Most of all she loved her family. She always looked forward to their time together, especially counseling her grandchildren on her walks up “Ralph’s Road.”

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard and son Tom, both in 2016.  She is survived by her sons Charles E. and Mary Jo Crossler of Viola, Donald R. and Debbie Crossler of Townsend, Montana and daughter-in-law Denise Crossler of Moscow and her daughter and son-in-law, Marcy and Kevin Taylor of Pasco, WA. She also leaves 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
