Sherwood Hall

October 1, 1948 — November 14, 2017

The world said goodbye to a kind and gentle soul as Sherwood James Hall III of Moscow died Tuesday morning, November 14, 2017. He was 69. Sherwood was born in October, 1948 in Jacksonville, Florida to Sherwood and Elaine (Fairbanks) Hall. When he was young the family moved to California. Sherwood especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping in the Gualala Redwoods on the coast of California. He graduated from high school in Cloverdale California. He then attended college in Santa Rosa and at Humboldt State. Sherwood and Janice Scully met and were married in Juneau, Alaska on February 15, 1969. They moved to Moscow in 1973 where Sherwood enrolled at the University of Idaho, graduating in 1976 with a degree in Business Administration. He went to work at Les Schwab Tire in Moscow for several years and helped them transition to the new store on White Avenue in the mid 1980's. He then began working for Busch Distributors as a driver and in sales. Sherwood returned to the UI and earned his minor in computer science. He went to work for Valcom Computers in Lewiston, then to Potlatch (now Clearwater Paper) in Information Systems in 2002, and retiring in 2009. Sherwood was a Scout leader, a member of the Moscow Lion's Club, an active member of the Moscow Seventh Day Adventist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir and lead singing at area nursing homes. Sherwood also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating and anything out doors. When he and Jan moved to "The Country" in 1987, Sherwood planted many trees that will remain a part of his legacy as an excellent steward of the land. Sherwood was interested in the success of the Moscow Dog Park and helped with its improvement by donating and spreading bark. He will also be remembered as a good neighbor, always ready to check in on and help anyone. He is survived by his wife of over 48 years, Jan, at their rural Moscow home, his son Biff (Kimberlee) of Nampa, daughters, Jennifer (Chris) Kleve of Chesapeake, Virginia and Rebecca Hall (Garret Duthie) of Portland. He also leaves his grandchildren, Mackenzie Walton, Harrison Hall and Devin Kleve and great granddaughters, Penelope and Lula Walton, a brother, Daniel (Yondi) Hall in Seattle and his faithful companion "Mocha". He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harrison. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 21st at the Moscow Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1015 W. C Street, Moscow. A reception and luncheon will follow at St. Mary's Family Center, 618 E. First St. Moscow. The family suggests memorials be made to the Humane Society of the Palouse for the care and maintenance of the Moscow Dog Park, 2019 White Ave., Moscow, ID 83843 or to the Palouse Hills Christian School, 3148 Tomer Rd., Moscow, ID 83843 in lieu of flowers.
