Violet May McAvoy, longtime area resident, died of age related causes Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Tri-State Memorial Hospital in Clarkston. She was 92. Violet was born March 31, 1924 to Oscar and Alice Spencer Branting at their home east of Troy. She was the fourth of ten children and attended school at Spring Valley and Troy. She married Earl "Pat" McAvoy, April 4, 1942 and they made their home for many years in Moscow. Vi was a homemaker who loved cooking and gardening. She and Pat enjoyed camping and being with family and friends. She is survived by a sister, Wanda Rueppel of Deary, sister and brother-in-law Shirley and Phil Tenwick of Moscow, two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Branting of Deary and Jan Branting of Spokane, Pat's brothers and wives, Jack and Joan McAvoy of Washington, D.C. and Bob and Barbara McAvoy of College Place, WA. She is survived by many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Vi was preceded in death by her husband Pat in 1987, her parents, her parents, Oscar and Alice, and her siblings, Mary Griffin, Betty Scott, John, Vernon, Melvin, Ray and Everett Branting. A graveside service will be held Friday, October 14, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Moscow Cemetery, with a light luncheon to follow at The CROSSing Church at 715 E. Travois Way In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorials be made to the Deary Recreation District or a charity of the donor's choice.
