William F. "Bill" Mccabe

William F. "Bill" McCabe of Moscow died Friday, December 11, 2015 at Good Samaritan Moscow Village. He was 87. Bill was born May 10, 1928 in Montrose, South Dakota to Henry and Bernice (Gildea) McCabe, one of 5 children. Bill attended schools in Montrose through the eighth grade when the family moved to Walla Walla, Washington. He finished school there, graduating from "WaHi". Bill joined the Navy in the latter part of WWII, attending basic training in San Diego. From there he went to Port Hueneme at Oxnard, CA for Seabee training school. He was then stationed aboard ship to the Mariana and Marshall Islands as part of a "crash crew", following, he returned to the States and was stationed in San Diego at North Island Naval and Air Force Unit. Following his discharge, Bill returned to Walla Walla where he worked in construction for a short time prior to securing a job with a Caterpillar tractor dealer in the city. Bill became supervisor of the fabrication for the next ten years. During this time, Bill and Joan Lee Ebersole were married and had three sons, W. "Mike", Steven L., and Jeffrey S. Bill and his family moved to Moscow in 1958, at which time he started a business - Reliable Rebuilders, a crawler tractor rebuilding operation, including a wire rope shop, providing equipment and supplies for the logging industry. Shortly after starting the business, he and Joan divorced. Bill later met and married Wilma M "Bille" Peterson on August 27, 1969 in Moscow. They made their home for many years on the farm East of Moscow. Bill sold the business and retired in 1987. He then went to work for Jim Newsome Real Estate. Bill received his real estate and broker's license during this time and graduated from the Real Estate Institute. Bill was a member of the Moscow Elks Lodge and served as chairman of their board twice, and for many years golfed on leagues. He was also a member of the Moscow Moose Lodge, Paradise Lodge #17, AF & AM, was active in the Shrine, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and was the director the Royal Order of the Jesters, the Shrine Legion of Honor and past president of the Latah County Shrine Club. Bill was also a member of the Troy-Deary Gun Club, of which he became a member of the board of directors. As a member, Bill won many shooting events, including Camas Prairie and State trap shooting titles. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Billie in 2008, sisters Angela "Patty", Marilyn Arland and Mary Winston. He is survived by his sons, Mike (Marie) McCabe of Moscow, Steven McCabe of The Dalles, OR, and Jeffrey (Gaye) McCabe in Salem, OR and a sister, Elaine Spencer of Clarkston. He also leaves 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, his step-children, Janice (Sherman) Clyde and Marilyn Farley and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow. Rev. Gordon Barun and Rev. Joseph McDonald will officiate and burial with Military Honors will follow at the Moscow Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the Shriner's Childrens Hospital in Spokane or the Troy-Deary Gun Club.
