Barbara J. Pieratt

Barbara Jean Pieratt passed into heaven on Wednesday, December 25, 2019. 

Barbara Jean Mosteller was born to Frederick and Vivian Mosteller on December 20, 1929, in Wichita, Kansas. Barbara was the 5th of 15 children who have remained a close-knit family to this day. Barbara’s father was a nurseryman, and she fondly remembered driving tractor at a young age.  She did not remember the hoeing of weeds as fondly.

Barbara met Lloyd Monroe Pieratt at high school when she was 17.  Lloyd had just returned from service in the navy in WWII.  They worked in the school office together and were married June 29, 1947, in Wichita, Kansas. They were married for 60 years.

Barbara and Lloyd lived on a ranch in Colorado before moving to May Valley, Washington.  They purchased 45 acres in Issaquah, Washington, where they lived and raised their 4 children, David Monroe, James Lloyd, Donald Mark, and Jeanne Marie.

Barbara was a stay-at-home mom during a time when it was no longer considered an honored profession because she believed in the value of her job. She kept a clean, comfortable home, cooked healthy meals from scratch, and blessed the family with clean laundry. Their son Jimmy contacted Muscular Dystrophy from an immunization shot and entered a wheel chair at age 10.  Barbara was his chief caregiver.  She always worked hard for her family, and always had love to share.

After Jimmy passed, at age 25, Barbara and Lloyd were able to travel and made several mission trips.  They visited Mexico a few times, Hawaii, Fiji, New Zealand, Japan, and the Philippines.  She became President of the Northwest Area of Aglow International where she served for 8 years.  Barbara was serious about her walk with God and that infused all that she did. Her strong faith was her greatest gift to the generations that follow.

In March of 1994, Lloyd had a severe stroke and Barbara once again became a caregiver.  She worked hard during a time when she needed to be able to slow down.  Through it all, she was an enthusiastic Grandma to her 12 grandchildren.  She would have “Grandma’s Day” every Thursday, complete with playing in the backyard kiddy pool, tea parties and a send-home of “Simon Says Go Home”.

Barbara began to have minor strokes, which she hid from family for some time.  Eventually, she and Lloyd had to leave their home and enter assisted living.  While there, Barbara continued to watch over her husband.  In May of 2018, Barbara came to live with her daughter in Harvard, Idaho and six months later moved to the Veteran’s Home in Lewiston, Idaho. The nursing staff was excellent, and she made many new friends.

Barbara is survived by a sister, Lemoine Ralston, of Andover, KS; sister-in-law Marilyn Mosteller of Haysville, KS; sister Mary Mathewson of Renton, WA; brother James Mosteller of Columbia, SC;  brother Timothy Mosteller of Talequah, Ok; brother Terry Mosteller of Arlington, WA; brother Kenneth Mosteller of Wichita, KS; sister Nancy Jones of Wichita, KS; Son David Pieratt of Ferndale, WA, daughter Jeanne Moore of Harvard, ID, 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild due shortly.
